what to expect
We are excited you are considering checking out Anchor Boston. When you come, we encourage you to dress comfortable and casual. But, if you like to dress up - that is entirely cool with us! We sing songs led by our skilled musicians that sound like current pop music. The difference is that these songs are really uplifting, focus on adoring the Divine, and have value for spiritual formation. We want you to be humming them through the week, and singing good thoughts into your mind and spirit. We sing for about twenty minutes at the beginning of the service, then read scripture or recite a historic creed together. We also pray, believing that the living God hears and responds to our prayers. After some information is shared about what is coming up for our community, we receive an offering. We do not want nor expect you to give, because you are our guest. If you decide to make Anchor your home, we will teach you about the benefits and principles of giving. We then listen to a well-crafted teaching that is encouraging and applicable to our busy and somewhat complicated Boston lives. The teaching goes for around thirty minutes. Then we respond in prayers and songs that connect with the teaching. After the pastor blesses us with the benediction, we always have refreshments and a time to enjoy meeting new friends and catching up with old ones. Our worship gatherings average about one hour and twenty minutes in length. Oh yes, the lights are kind of low in case all of this is new to you. We want you to feel comfortable because we know coming into a new church can be daunting! Finally, expect to hear a lot about the value of a relationship with Jesus and nothing about religion. We believe that is where life is - in Jesus!
We believe the church is a family. We love welcoming people “home” as they become a part of our community. Our passion is to see people have a vibrant relationship with God. We teach the Bible, intersecting Jesus with each teaching. We know God has a beautiful plan for every life. Anchor is here to encourage people in the discovery and experience of the plan God has for them.
